Support
Something wrong, something missing, or a trail we have not got? Tell us. Every one of these opens a pre-filled issue — you only have to fill in what happened.
Something is broken
The app crashed, a button did nothing, the map went blank.
A trail is missing
You know it is there and Cairn does not. Often fixable.
Something else
A question, an idea, or something that just seems off.
These go to a public issue tracker, so do not put anything in one you would not want read. If it concerns your own data — a deletion you cannot complete, say — the app can do it directly: Settings → Recorded tracks → Delete my uploaded walks.
Common things
The map is blank where I am
Zoom out. Below about six kilometres across, Cairn draws trail lines; above that it switches to named marks, because a field of path fragments at county scale says nothing useful. If it is blank at every zoom, the ground for that area has not downloaded — tap a trail and it will offer.
A trail I know is not there
Likely one of two things. Either nobody has mapped it in OpenStreetMap, in which case adding it there is the fix and it will reach Cairn on the next rebuild — or we have it and have not published that area yet. Tapping the trail will tell you which.
I downloaded a trail and it still says it is not on my phone
A download covers the ground around the trail rather than the whole of a long route. If you are looking at the far end of something that runs for forty kilometres, that stretch may genuinely not be here. The trail screen offers the rest.
Nothing is reported on any trail near me
That is probably true rather than broken. Cairn only knows what somebody has walked with the app open, and it says nothing reported here rather than pretending the trail is clear.
My reports are stuck
They queue when there is no signal and send when there is. Settings shows how many are waiting and why the last attempt did not go.
I want my uploaded walks deleted
Settings → Recorded tracks → Delete my uploaded walks. It tells you how much went. See Privacy for what is stored and why no account is needed.
Reporting a problem well
The most useful thing you can include is where you were and what you expected. Settings shows the app version and which service it is talking to — both help.
If it is a map error rather than an app error — a trail in the wrong place, a missing path — that lives in OpenStreetMap, and fixing it there fixes it for every app, not just this one. Tell us anyway if you would rather not edit a map yourself.
No GitHub account? Say so in any public channel you like and it will find its way — this is a small project, not a support desk.
